Since we moved in to another apartment and got a real dining table, this old table has now become my study table (although there’s not much studying going on there). It’s where I place all my office supplies, my laptop and the current books I’m reading. It’s where I usually spend 70% of my typical day, a day slightly off from a couch potato’s day. Though it lacked drawers like my old study table, which is now my mom’s sewing table, I think it has served its purpose well. It was lately I realized its plastic cover is already old and dusty plus it looked too plain and boring for my ever changing style so I decided to give it a little makeover.
We are currently staying in an apartment with strict rules so I cannot drill nails nor tape a lot of stuff on the walls, and as a visual person, I just can’t live in a room without anything nice to look at and inspire me. That’s when I decided to make my table a little mood board for my favorite photos. Besides, after waking up and eating my breakfast, this table’s the first thing I go to in order to start a productive day.
Look at those. The things that happen to plastic covers in a hot sizzling weather.
OK, so first thing I did was go to my WeHeartIt page, download all the photos I love, which all hail from my endless plethora of interests and print them out. If you like, you can choose photos of the same hue so that your table collage will be color coordinated. You can also cut out from magazines as well. As for me, I went crazy choosing black and white as well as wild colors, all reminded me of the things that interest and inspire me.
Then I cut them one by one.
Then I take everything off the table and remove its plastic covering. Look at that so shiny and well preserved.
I then play a little sudoku with my photo tiles. I would like to imagine arranging wall frames with this. You can just put them anywhere, whatever style you fancy. I went a little OCD with this and didn’t want black and white to be placed with another black and white, same goes for the ultra colorful and the quotes. Sorry, is that going over board? I feel like I’ve put too much thought in this.
Once you’re satisfied with the arrangement, you can now get the tape and stick them to the table one by one. I’d like to use tape so that when the time comes that I get sick of looking at it, I can easily take off the photos and replace them with new ones.
Cover it with a new plastic covering and voila!
I like how busy it looks now. It somehow encourages me to keep busy too!
You can also do this to absolutely every other furniture you like to spruce up. I’d also love to see if you guys have done something like this. Comment with a link and I’d check it out right away!
