Seriously, I need to party more this year.
Waking up without any hangover on the 1st day of the new year is kind of new to me. I haven’t started the year sober in a while.
Last year, I was hammered. I woke up angry and not really feeling the first day of the new year. What’s worse was I didn’t really party the night before. I was celebrating New Year’s eve alone in my room, with only a few bottles of booze to keep me company. It was raining heavily, like it always does in my province. And I was really, really lonely.
This year, I spent New Year’s eve with my man’s family. Apparently mine has a bad habit of not really being celebratory so I just had to make plans for myself. It was definitely a whole new New Year’s eve celebration for me. There was a decent meal (with beer) where the family actually gathered to eat together. There were fireworks (and did I mention that despite the ban on fireworks, it was my first time to ever hold anything that lights up and explodes). Everyone was excited. Everyone hugged each other during the first few minutes of the new year. It was surreal. It was something I have never experienced. It might seem like I’m exaggerating, but it’s true.
Last year I woke up hungover and miserable. This year, I was actually looking forward to my head hurting and feeling really sick all throughout the day, but what I had was happy hormones and a great memory from last night.
Realizing this difference makes me really grateful. A lot of things happen in a year and sometimes it takes one particular day to make you think like, yeah, progress is happening. Yeah, you’re life is actually going somewhere.
Now here’s a question: How do we start the year right???
As Geminis, we have a tendency to panic each time we see a huge blank page before us. So many possibilities. So many things to do. Where to get started? Where to focus our energies? When to launch headfirst and when to take it easy?
Quick tip: Monthly horoscopes! In this first Gemini Babe of 2018, Astrostyle gives us guidance from the stars on how to proceed with our lives this first month of 2018.
Slide into your most sensible footwear as you lunge into 2018, Gemini. You’ll want to land on well-tractioned soles that you can plant on terra firma—and maybe even dig in your heels and claim your turf. This January is bookended by two rare full supermoons, embroidering the month with some rapid-fire moments during which it feels like everything is happening at once. Even master juggler Geminis could get a little overwhelmed by this pace.
On January 1, a Cancer full supermoon beams into your second house of work, money and security. Set aside the lofty New Year’s resolutions for a moment and add a few practical ones to the list.
Give yourself some time to settle into the new landscape of 2018. The Sun is in Capricorn and your uber-private eighth house until January 19: a time when you might duck out of the spotlight to research, do some emotional processing or reconnect with important people. For some Geminis, the reflective energy of this cycle puts you in the mood for solitude—you’ve had your fill of socializing, and you need to recover. The eighth house rules joint ventures and merging. You might explore ways to team up for a mutual career win-win or deepen the bond in an intimate relationship. Concentrate on your short list of top-tier people and give them the lion’s share of your time.
Your tunnel vision gives way to a big-picture perspective on January 19, when the Sun moves into Aquarius and your expansive ninth house for a month. All that behind-the-scenes ruminating you’ve been doing may start to sharpen into a clear image. Travel, publishing and higher education could be on the agenda: Carve time over the next four weeks for self-development and exploring new ideas. Slipping away for a vacation, even a single night outside city limits, would be balm for your soul.
Because the month ends as dramatically as it started, prepare that elevator pitch! On January 31, the full supermoon in Leo, also a game-changing total lunar eclipse, strikes your third house of communication and ideas. Surprising news may arrive, or you could have a conversation that completely turns the tides.
Planning. Planning. Planning.
Cha-ching, Gemini Babe! 2018 is finally looking bright for the financial aspect of your life. The random things you’ve been working on last year may actually come in full circle this year. However, they may all come together, all at once. Yes, it may do your bank account something good for once, but girl, overwhelm is not good. If managed recklessly, this can certainly lead to terrible repercussions. Planning is definitely your best friend here.
Plan concrete tasks for your numerous goals this month. Learn to divide your tasks between those that you have to do immediately and those that you can put off in the meantime. Work through and finish one task at a time and not micromanage yourself like you often do. Stakes are high this month. Your wallet is counting on you.
Let the hustle commence!
Most months last year involve a lot of taking it slow (talk about four episodes of Mercury Retrograde, huh). Don’t we think we have meditated and chilled enough? This year is a year for plunging head on to achieving our goals and actually getting shit done. This is the time to hustle. This is the time to follow through with our projects and take things to the next level.
Less casual socializing. More investing time on relationships that matter.
The struggle is real, Gemini. With the overwhelming pile of tasks ahead, you need people to help you through your multiple shenanigans. You can’t build an empire overnight, and you certainly can’t build it alone. Enough with the casual socializing (although parties and meetups are so hard to refuse). While it’s fun to meet and fool around with new faces, this is the time to start building mutually beneficial relationships with like-minded individuals.
This is the time to build your tribe. To those who have no idea where to start looking for friends, just chill and stay put. Trust that this month the universe will work it’s magic to help you attract your people. And it will help to be a little more vigilant of those who are just there for fun, versus those who can help you out in the long run. Build on relationships that matter to you and your future.
Take mind-blowing, transformational sabbaticals
Indeed, the energy level you need to put out this month will most likely take a toll on your health so a brief but life-changing retreat is necessary. An out of town getaway over the weekend seems like a good idea. Hit the beaches while the summer fever is not yet in season. Book a whole day of pampering that includes hair and nail spa, relaxing massages and a rejuvenating facial. While you’re at it, you may want to visit your therapist for a destressing session. If you’re not up for therapy sessions, you can always call your girls and have a girls night at home. You know, whatever you need to get chilled out and ready to get back into action.
