Have you experienced having that one day (that sometimes stretches to a week) where everything that can turn shitty, TURNS shitty? Like your phone starts messing up right when the Uber driver’s arriving at your location. The internet suddenly disappears in the middle of your game. Your laptop gets this untimely shutdown and restart before you can save the file you’ve been working on for hours.
Then the days of horror continue. Your appointments get rescheduled. Flights get cancelled. Nobody seems to understand you. Your Game of Thrones Season 6 torrent stops downloading at 99%.
Believe it or not, this is all because of Mercury Retrograde. Plus maybe a few minor factors that you simply won’t admit to yourself (yeah, I get it. It’s never your fault).
Mercury retrograde is a phenomenon that happens when Mercury pauses and slightly rotates the other way around before it approaches the earth’s orbit. Astrologically speaking, Mercury rules communication, travel, and technology so when it’s on retrograde, havoc’s gonna happen to these aspects in your life. And this is likely to occur 3-4 times a year. Yikes!
I know, the thought of it sounds hellascary, but as a girl who’s still consciously living amidst its presence, I guarantee you its benefits will certainly make you a better person. Not that we can pin everything that fucks up on something we have no control of. Although this is so much better than looking for someone else to blame. It teaches us to slow down every once in a while and exercise that thing we call patience. Time to chill and take a breath. Maybe read a book or better yet, clean your room.
Mercury retrograde is an opportunity for introspection. This means to look inside and evaluate your life: how all your past experiences were necessary with respect to where you are right now, how you think about life in general relating to your recent realizations, and how your goals make you feel. It’s the time to get spiritual–to meditate, relax and pull yourself back a little from the stresses of reality.
Here’s a list of DON’Ts during Mercury Retrograde.
1. Buy a piece of technology
It might seem tempting to purchase the latest android phone. Add the fact that the gadget store’s sale period may be ending soon. However, to save yourself from too much back and forth, and possible repair charges, don’t buy one during Mercury retrograde. Just don’t. And if your gadget’s already broken, this may not be the best time to take it out for a diagnostic.
2. Schedule anything that works with technology like cosmetic surgery and Skype conference or webinars.
Unscheduled maintenance, power outage, manpower fuck up or internet breakdown is most likely to happen during Mercury retrograde. So for any forms of surgery that CAN wait, try scheduling it on another month. As for emergency surgeries, go ahead as it’s inevitable and life-threatening.
There’s also a 50% chance you won’t be able to converse properly with people over the internet during this unholy period–mostly due to technical glitches or coverage problems, and sometimes misunderstandings.
3. Sign a contract without reviewing thoroughly
There’s always a fine print to every contract. If you mindlessly sign a document at this time without reviewing them properly, you’ll most likely end up with regrets. During Mercury retrograde, there’s bound to have a miscommunication whether verbally or in writing. This is not to stop you from talking to people. This is a stern warning to be mindful of who you speak with, what you say and how you interpret spoken or unspoken conversations. It’s always healthy to think before you ink.
4. Start anything huge
Mercury retrograde’s also unforgiving when it comes to new beginnings. This is not the best time to invest on anything, launch a project or start working on your big goals. There will be circumstances that will hinder your efforts from bearing any fruit. It is, however, the right time to finish or work on existing projects. It’s time to accomplish any unfinished business in general. This also applies to relationships as well. It’s time to fix unresolved issues, possibly for either reconciliation or closure. Definitely don’t start major commitments this time too.
5. Assume anything
I guess this is the biggest challenge that Mercury retrograde poses. As stated earlier, miscommunication is bound to happen. Any forms of assumptions or conclusions without thorough examination will most likely get you in trouble. This is especially for those with anger management and insecurity issues. Try not to get paranoid over the littlest things. Don’t assume that everything’s targeted at you. Sometimes people mean well when they seem offensive. Sometimes they mean to offend when they’re trying to be nice. Try not to make any assumptions just to save yourself the drama. This is also the time to be forgiving.
6. Schedule flights, especially connecting flights
A ton of shit to your flight/s will happen. If you scheduled a trip during a Mercury retrograde, try to add a few more to your budget (and patience!) to keep your self from starving when your flights get delayed or cancelled. Also, try not to book connecting flights. Delays will stress you out especially if another flight depended on it. Try watching Airline and lose your mind.
7. Press SEND without looking
Both funny and tragic stories spring from leaping before looking. You do not want to send a flirty message to your dad or send a gossip to someone you’re gossiping about. Bottomline is, be extra careful with anything that has anything to do with communication, travel, and technology.
Here are the remaining Mercury retrogrades for this 2016 and early 2017.
August 30-September 22: Virgo
December 19-January 8, 2017: Capricorn
Dec 19, 2016 to Jan 8, 2017: Capricorn, to fire-sign Sagittarius
Learn to take advantage of Mercury retrograde to give yourself a break. This is an opportunity to take things at a glacial pace. Save some energy for the next big things in your year. I know I did. It’s comforting to know you can completely blame everything on an intangible force. However, it’s as liberating to acknowledge you’re still in charge of your life.
